With Everything We’ve Got! [warm-up] (2023)
Performance [60 minutes]
32 reversible bibs, 45 interlocking gym mats, crash mat, foam roller, skipping roam, mountain dew, earphones, sandwich chalk board, photography lights

Approaching this as a 60-minute training session, Herlihy attempts to fall through the frameworks experienced by those who regularly, and sometimes deliberately, fall out of recognition. Descending through the gaps in the System which has historically denied their presence, Herlihy approaches this active state of falling as a contrary embodiment; a refusal to situate themself in relation to a destination, a final form, a specific shape, or an established configuration of desire and/or identity.

Acting as a precursor to this performance, a large neon green asterisk [*] marked the site of this warm-up. A diacritical character, the * poses a question to its prefix, signalling towards a politics based on instability which is orientated towards social transformation, rather than political accomm- odation.

Rupturing the ideology of individualism, Herlihy composed a performance script which consisted of 42 characters: 3 linespeople and the 39 different limbs and bodily organs which Herlihy collectively employed throughout this training session (i.e. right arm, left foot, diaphragm, etc.). Further building on frameworks of coalition, audience members were asked to wear a training bib of their choice whilst witnessing the performance from the ‘bleachers’ of the Atrium (level 1 - 3).

With Everything We’ve Got! [warm-up] (2023) is part of Herlihy’s larger transdisciplinary project With Everything We’ve Got! (2022 - ?) and was commissioned by Temple Bar Gallery + Studios as part of the group exhibition Reflex Blue (2023). This iteration was kindly supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.
