the gigantic

The gigantic
can be considered
as a metaphor
for the
abstract authority
of the State.

The partial vision
of the gigantic
prohibits
the observer
from closure
of the object.

Unable
to apprehend
the whole,
the gigantic
cannot stand
full
for its’
entirety.

We
are only
conscious of
parts,
which become
things
in themselves.

All of which
lie
at a distance of
unfathomable reach.

the gigantic was a live performance commissioned for the Warsaw Biennial by curator Janek Simon for the Exhibition of Foreign Artists living in Poland. Independent curator and art critic, Dorian Batycka writes of this exhibition in his text Voices from Within: On the Foreignness of Polish Contemporary Art for Magazine Szum. Concluding the article, Batycka quotes Simon:

“I hope that this show establishes one thing: that foreign artists should not be invisible in Poland any longer.”
